Your Soft Skills “Who Am I” Picture


What are soft skills?

It might make more sense to you if we explain your hard skills first.

Hard Skills: Are What you do

  • Emotional intelligence 
  • How you interact 
  • Self awareness

Is your message clear, how is it perceived, does it help or hinder your listener?

It is commonly recognised 85% of an employee’s success, is directly related to having good soft skills. If you can not communicate or share your knowledge effectively…… you have a wasted education.

As you go through this course, I want you to think of it as putting together a jigsaw puzzle of yourself. Each piece is a skill that will help you on your life’s journey. This will become your blueprint for developing your skills and putting everything together in a way that works. It will enable you to do life much easier and with more fulfilment.

This is where your learning might take a different turn from what you are used to. It is up to you to decide what you need to add to your skills set. Everyone’s journey in life is different and everyone’s personal jigsaw is different depending on cultural background, life’s experiences, personal environment etc.

Be honest with yourself with where you’re at. Over estimating your skills or trying to keep up with someone else is not going to help you develop. You only need to compare yourself with you.

This is your picture, your puzzle. So the things that you add to the Soft Skills “Who Am I” picture are likely to be different to what others might add; and that is perfectly fine.

Creating your Who Am I picture

In the materials tab there is an A4 size picture with blank bubbles for you to print and fill in as you go along.

When you finish a module, you will be asked to spend a few minutes in reflection and do an exercise that will help you give clarity to what you have learnt. From there, you will decide on the critical skills for you, and add them to your “Who Am I” picture.

As you complete more and more modules, your soft skills “Who Am I” picture will start to take shape.

To help you keep on track, put a start date for your personal development, and subsequent dates as you start to work on the next module’s skills.

In the materials section you will find a 12 Month Personal Development Plan. This is a great way to keep you developing your new skills. Each month you pick just one skill and spend the whole month working on it. At the end of the month you can assess your development.
